Wheatgrass Juice
Wheatgrass juice is one of today’s health food supplements
of choice. And for good reason. It is derived from the so-called
“green” food wheatgrass, a young wheat plant with concentrated
sources of a wide range of nutrients: vitamins, minerals, enzymes,
amino acids, and most importantly chlorophyll. But because wheatgrass
as such is indigestible by humans, it must be liquefied, or juiced,
to fully benefit from al its goodness.
Proponents of wheatgrass juice are fond of stating that one ounce
of wheatgrass is the nutritional equivalent of 2.5 pounds of the
freshest of garden vegetables. Dubbed as an energiser, a blood builder,
a body cleanser, and a body healer, wheatgrass juice is an all-around
health booster. Drinking just two ounces daily can provide lasting
vitality throughout the day. Chlorophyll, which makes up 70% of
wheatgrass juice’s content, helps to build red blood cells,
purify organs, and detoxify the blood. It also aids in lymph drainage.
With its 30 some odd active enzymes, wheatgrass juice is instrumental
in the elimination of internal body waste.
The juice of wheatgrass itself is a rich green color with an unusual
taste not suited for all palates. Therefore, it is recommended,
at least at the beginning of a regimen, to combine the juice with
other fresh vegetable and/or fruit juices.
Drinking as little as one ounce a day can improve your overall
health, but the benefits of wheatgrass are best enjoyed when intake
is gradually increased to a couple of ounces daily.
